The Cairns Tropical Writers Festival is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and respectful environment for all attendees, volunteers, speakers, and staff. We are committed to providing a safe space where everyone can engage in literary discussions, exchange ideas, and celebrate the written word. To ensure that all participants have a positive experience, we expect everyone to adhere to the following Code of Conduct:

  1. Respect and Inclusivity: We value diversity and welcome individuals from all backgrounds, cultures, and identities. Volunteers are expected to treat everyone with respect, regardless of differences in race, beliefs or ability.  Discrimination, harassment, or any form of prejudice will not be tolerated.
  2. Integrity:  Volunteers should act honestly and ethically, upholding the values of the CTWF and maintaining trustworthiness in their interactions.
  3. Professionalism: Volunteers must conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times and strive to represent the CTWF's goals. Volunteers are expected to demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and dedication to their roles. This includes refraining from disruptive behaviour, personal attacks, or any form of intimidation. Volunteers are expected to listen actively and be open to different perspectives and opinions, even if they differ from your own.
  4. Safe Environment: Volunteers are expected to help maintain a safe and comfortable environment for everyone. If you witness or experience any misconduct, harassment, or unsafe behaviour, please report it to the Volunteer Coordinators immediately.
  5. Conflict Resolution: In the event of conflicts or disagreements, volunteers are encouraged to address issues respectfully and constructively, seeking resolution through appropriate channels.
  6. Respect for Venue and Property: Volunteers are expected to treat the Festival venue, equipment, and property with care and respect. Please report any damage incurred to the venue immediately to the CTWF Volunteer Coordinator.
  7. Compliance with Laws and Policies: Abide by all applicable Australian laws and festival policies. This includes but is not limited to copyright laws, intellectual property rights, and venue regulations.
  8. Confidentiality: Volunteers may have access to sensitive information about the CTWF or its presenters, volunteers and/or attendees. They are typically required to maintain confidentiality and respect privacy rights.
  9. Consequences of Violations: Violation of this Code of Conduct may result in removal from the event, denial of access to future festival activities, or other appropriate actions determined by festival organisers.
  10. Reporting Procedures: If you experience or witness any behaviour that violates this Code of Conduct, please report it immediately to the CTWF Volunteer Coordinators. All reports will be taken seriously and handled with discretion.
