AN EVENING WITH LEIGH SALES AND ANNABEL CRABB
Cairns Tropical Writers’ Festival proudly presents Australian journalism powerhouses, Annabel Crabb and Leigh Sales in what will undoubtedly be a delightfully entertaining and eclectic conversation covering everything from books to TV, music to cooking, and friendship to films, leaving very little cultural terrain untraversed.
Leigh Sales is best known for her work with ABC, where for twelve years, she anchored the network’s prime-time current affairs program 7.30.
Leigh has held numerous roles at ABC, including as Washington Correspondent, and is a three-time winner of Australia’s highest journalist prize, the Walkley Award.
She has been the face of ABC’s major events coverage, including federal election and budget nights. She has interviewed every living Australian Prime Minister and innumerable world leaders and celebrities from Hillary Clinton and Tony Blair to Paul McCartney and Elton John. She’s the author of four books, including the national bestseller ‘Any Ordinary Day’.
In 2018, Leigh was awarded the Order of Australia for her services to Journalism.
Annabel Crabb is a multi-faceted writer and broadcaster who ranges between federal politics, gender, current affairs, history, and cooking. She is the creator and presenter of Ms. Represented, presenter and writer for the ABC-wide Australia Talks project, and co-host of the initial and 2021 return series of Tomorrow Tonight, with Charlie Pickering. She has written and presented the documentary series on life inside Parliament The House, With Annabel Crabb as well as six seasons of ABC’s Kitchen Cabinet, for which she received two Logie nominations.
The delightful duo have been pals and colleagues for many a year. Encouraged (possibly drunkenly) by some of their friends to record their hilarious conversations, they sat down in 2014 with a cheap microphone in front of them, thus giving birth to the very first episode of Chat 10 Looks 3.
In September 2021, their first book together, Well Hello, was released to the delight of the masses. We are so excited to bring this event to Cairns.

ABOUT WELL HELLO: From the hit podcast Chat 10 Looks 3 comes a smart, hilarious, and heartfelt book about friendship, the vagaries of life and culture, and everything in between. In 2014, two of Australia’s most high-profile journalists sat at a kitchen table, hit record on a phone and started a rambling conversation that’s still going on (and on). From books to TV, music to cooking, friendship to films, there’s little cultural terrain Annabel Crabb and Leigh Sales haven’t traversed in their oddly named but nonetheless wildly popular podcast Chat 10 Looks 3. Now, in their first book together, the pair takes a stroll through some of the issues of our time, offering advice for would-be writers, thoughts on developing a rich reading life, tips for navigating the perilous world of social media, and the secrets of a great friendship, all with the digressions that listeners of their podcast have come to love. Here Crabb and Sales discuss kindness, success and failure, and not taking yourself – or others – too seriously, with a liberal sprinkling of fairy wrens, granny pants, show tunes, creative insults, diabolical mum bags and CLANGs. Whether you’re a devoted listener of Chat 10 Looks 3, curious as to what all the fuss is about, or simply looking to cry-laugh on public transport, Well Hello is the book for you.
